ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТЬ МИССИОНЕРСКИХ ОБЩЕСТВ НА ОСТРОВАХ ФИДЖИ В ПРЕДКОЛОНИЗАЦИОННЫЙ ПЕРИОД (1835-1874 ГГ.)
Острова Фиджи стали в числе первых территорий в островной части Тихого океана, которые бы-ли колонизированы Великобританией в конце XIX веке. Работа по колонизации островов включала и христианизацию коренного населения, которое практиковало каннибализм и препятствовало активной экономической деятельности предпринимателей из европейских стран и Америки. В работе рассмотрена история появления различных христианских миссий и расширение их деятельности на архипелаге. В ходе работы над статьей были использованы такие исторические источники, как рапорты капитанов и консулов, дневники миссионеров, материалы дебатов в парламенте Великобритании, международные договора. В статье анализируются методы работы, которые использовали миссионеры для организации успешной работы миссии. В частности, рассматривается тактика миссионеров по христианизации вождей местных племен, способствовавшая распространению и укреплению христианской веры на островах. Уделено внимание вмешательству миссионеров во внутриполитические процессы на островах Фиджи. В работе уделено внимание вопросам аккультурации коренного населения посредством привития фиджийским христианам европейских норм поведения и быта. Приводятся примеры превышения полномочий миссионеров. Актуальность работы обусловлена ростом интереса к истории стран третьего мира и становлению их культуры. Основным результатом исследования являются выводы о роли миссионеров в христианизации и европеизации коренного населения Фиджи, а также последующей аннексии островов Великобританией.

THE ACTIVITIES OF MISSIONARY SOCIETIES IN THE FIJI ISLANDS DURING THE PRE-COLONIZATION PERIOD (1835-1874).
The Fiji Islands were among the first territories in the Pacific Ocean to be colonized by Great Britain in the late 19th century. The effort of colonizing the islands included the christianization of the indige-nous population, which practiced cannibalism and hindered the active economic activity of entrepre-neurs from European countries and America. The paper examines the history of the emergence of var-ious Christian missions and the expansion of their activities in the archipelago. In the process of writ-ing these article, historical sources such as reports from captains and consuls, diaries of missionaries, materials from debates in the British Parliament, and international treaties were used. The article ana-lyzes the methods that the missionaries used to organize the work of the missions. In particular, the article examines the tactics of missionaries to christianize the leaders of local tribes, which contributed to the spread and strengthening of the Christian faith on the islands. Attention is paid to the interfer-ence of missionaries in the internal political processes on the Fiji Islands. The work focuses on the is-sues of acculturation of the indigenous population through the inculcation of Fijian Christians with Eu-ropean norms of behavior and way of life. Examples of abuse of missionaries' powers are given. The relevance of the work is due to the growing interest in the history of the Third World countries and the formation of their culture. The main result of the study is the conclusions about the role of missionaries in the Christianization and Europeanization of the indigenous population of Fiji, as well as the subse-quent annexation of the islands by Great Britain.
